A new chapter.

PBa

Age : 10 years old

Sex : male.

PBa came with is parents and his hometeacher. PBa is verbal child however he dont have two way communication. When a child don’t have two way communication I consider the child don’t have communication . It may sound unfair to the child .
Pba may say “ I love you but suddenly he will bite you” . In my first meet up with the family I have to suffer for PBa to bite me. As he bites I hold the pain , I was hoping the hometeacher will react…. Sadly she just sit there. Haize … how will the child improved ?

PBa is 10 years will he improved ? How plasticity is the brain? Can a 10 years child’s brain being rewire? . My head was filled with such questions…I strongly believe the brain can be rewire . PBa will improved each days.
PBa is a boy who don’t responses when his parents call him. If he can’t get what he wants he will have a hug tantrum. When he saw his sister eat the food that he like he will attacked her sister by bitting her. PBa not just attacked her sister, he also will bite others . Haize I was the victim …

PBa also failed to understand what sharing is caring . He may say such phrases… in reality he don’t know what is sharing ?what is caring. ? So many thing he don’t understand … so much to be done on him.
Don’t mentioned about academic …

Gygi home lesson

I have give home program to Gygi’s father, for the beginning I can see his father is so hardworking to work with Gygi, as Gygi is improving his dad has take thing for granted. Now Gygi still improving .

It was a surprise to have feedback from Gygi’s grandma said that Gygi is able to understand communication. eg are you hungry? if hungry Gygi will nod his head to express he is hungry . do you want milk milk? if dont want milk he will shake his head. Gygi’s grandma said it is more easier to look after him after attend my lesson.

Gygi also begin basic verbal like papa, je je, mama, popo, gogo. He is also abe to express that he want to get out of the house by point to the door. Gygi live in condominium. He only point to the door when he sees his father.

Seeing a child begin to have communication it make me feel the child will have better tomorrow if he continue progress on. ..to be continued….

Raja oral development

This lesson Raj came with the domestic helper who was hired by his parent to look after him. I allow the helper to sit in for the lesson . As i work i ask question to the helper. I expect she is able to answer my question about Raj. haize she seem dont know much about the child .

I begin with calming effect , this lesson he allow me to do much on his oral muscle so as sucking reflex. In each lesson I observe Raj , I notice he has sucking problems, in this lesson i do much on the oral muscle and sucking reflex. I told the helper to used a large hole for the milk bottle.

Apart from sucking , Raj also yet to engage with people, he is very much into his own world Surprising upon working and working. then I blow a balloon , I tap on the balloon, then I invite Raj to tap on the balloon. He is very much rely on show and action. I did a lot observation to see where he has stuck even have attend Occupation Therapy and Speech Therapy. Many of his reflex yet to integrated. it is a joy after show and action Raj begin to tap on the balloon as i walk away from him, he is able to follow me. He begin to aware the balloon is moving away from him. … little improvement will lead to great improvement. ..as usual I will said to be continued.

Raj oh no I bites

Child name : Raj

Age : 3 plus boy

Yet to verbal, many repeatative pattern , a lot of skill yet to develop. Prior this Raj has attend OT and speech , how ever I yet to see any significant improvement.

My first meet up with Raj was a shock to me. I was not aware of the child will bite people. Ah he bite me. In the first meet up i begin with calming effect, without calming down the child , the child will fight as the therapy lesson move on . In this lesson, the parent both sit in to observe how I work with their son. Both parents are medical specialist…

As I work on I begin to see Raj begin to calm down. When come to drinking milk from milk bottle , oh no I see it took him so long for Raj to finish the milk. What is wrong with him? It is challenging to work with none communicator child. let see how far can Raj benefit with my therapy. .. to be continued.

Gygi , I am new kid

Gygi

Child age : 2 years .

Gygi came to me just after Chinese New Year of this year 2023

What was the official diagnosis? I was told when he was born medical dr said Gygi has only 10% survivor rate. Somehow Gygi pull thru the 10% rate.

When I first meet Gygi, He has only left side of body functional, his right side yet to functional. He yet to able to roll his body. He yet to able to sit up, his trunk neck was so weak. Gygi yet to able understand language , indirect yet to have communication skill. Does Gygi cry when we first meet up , yes he did cry. A very challenging case/boy to work with you.

There were so many skill Gygi yet to develop. As i work on his body i explained and show his father how to do. Auch Gygi only come an hour per week. is this sufficient?

Chern Q PL2

Speech –

Chern development from single word into two words then phrase. Prior achieve all this , i put much afford on her oral as she has has drooling. Her drooling finally stop, she picks up sound of alphabet. She pick up much verbal. my greatest worry is “child is able to have speech but with lack of understanding the conteext” … I did a lot of twist and turn communication … with question of who, what, how , where, whose.

I could recall in one occasion she vomit during the family outing. (mom infromed me). As i work with her i will ask question about what happen to her . Chern will tell me vomit with action… then i will ask where vomit .. where where ? school, toilet , playground ? She will tell playground.

Attention span.

My focus is in cultivate interest to learn , curiousity to know. I normally start with doughplay . We make dough from raw, she has knead to make a dough. I give little assistant , initial when the dough stick on her hand she will ask to wash wash. (many will said sensory disorder) Well in regardless of what the label is, all i know is to put her back into the right track of soul , spirit and body.

Has dough making improve Chern;s attention span? well it depends on each individual . iI see Chern no longer so sensitive to the dough making …. combine with other therapies i gave , Chern is able to tolerate the sticky dough . How far will Chern progress from here? how about her behaviour? So Challenging i will said. … shall continue next

Chern Q -GDD – Genetic

GDD , Genetic ?

July 2023,

Chern joint me in 2021 during the MCO time. I know the child need to improved each day.
Age : 2 plus, none verbal except saying mommy . Yet to form cognitive development. What sort of diagnosis? GDD or genetic. In my opinion if the medical field can settle genetic disorder then it will be good. May be they have in oversea which I may not aware of it.

It has been a challenge to work with yet to verbal child. However with both parents and I work hand in hand we have see Chern keep improved in each day.

Significant improvement :-

Phases 1

Living skill.

1) toilet train :- under the programme , Chern is responding to toilet train in just few months. She no longer wear dryper when reach age 3. She is able to go to toilet with a support to watch over her.

2) feeds :- in my lesson i always show and tell the parents how to train Chern to feeds herself. at the age of 3 plus she feeds herself but in messy way. By age of 4 she begin to feeds herself in more neat way. She also learn to make request of want to eat sweet corn. Again i will observe the way she bite, and chew the corn. my lesson has design in according to Chern’s need in development.

Phase 2

Cognitive skill – speech with cognitive understanding. Chern begin with saying number in verbal, subsequent isolate quantity with number. She then move into sound of the alphabet with picture matching … how far has she goes from here …I will said she is amazing… i can ensure the lesson i design for is effective in her development need.

Year 2023

Time just passed by too fast. Am I still providing therapy for the child with learning challenges.Yes I do.

I alway tell parents a child who has verbal does not mean he / she don’t have issue in development . Truely begin this year I have to work with this group of children , Pretty challenging, yet contented when see them improved . See beyond, work beyond. Think out of box. Guess what are the cases I am doing in year 2023…. Coming …update

KLer.- time don’t wait .

So fast time flies. Now is March 2021. Guess what has happened to KLer. Did he cope with his grade 2 studies. ? Being a boy develop from only able to talk a phrase of four words to now he is able to read, count, write. He is able to comprehend communication. He attend a home school for normal children. There is no shadow teacher accompany him to school .

I am thankful and grateful to his mom, despite is a working mom. This mom really put afford to develop him. KLer ask his mom to get him UKU Le Le . How will us as adult know weather the child is serious to learn? Mom got him a UKUlele, KLer hug the UKULele to bed for few nights. Mom send him to learn UKUlele. Did KLer pick up the skill to play UKUle le? He did pick up the skill, he plays the song “Amazing grace” . He join the solo performance in MCO time. It was share by the music centre via youtube.

It was a long journey to develop a child, develop academic, social skills, behaviour, character and so on… mom and I are much into character building. I respect his mom, a humble mom who has open heart to receive idea and suggestion to develop his son.

Last Saturday was an amazing Saturday to us. KLer came to lesson , he confess he made mom up sad and angry. He did apologize to mom. What we appreciate is KLer’s honesty to tell and confess. My lesson is when you confess, then you must repent, don’t repeat the same mistake. He listen and said he will not repeat the same mistake. … I waits eagerly for next Saturday time with him. … I shall see what come next….

JYing-new discovery

Over the years of working with children with learning challenges, I always emphasis on self help skill. I also emphasis the same to JYing’s mother, I share how to break down each task into small unit to work with JYing.

As months goes I notice her strong will of don’t follow instruction begin decrease, she begin to listen to cooperate. She begin to follow basic formation of writing, basic single word speech, slowly progress to two or three words speech. When a JYing begin to have more vocal, I will begin to expect her to progress on as the time passed by. I taught her pincer skill, formation concept of writing with listening skills. Does she know alphabet ? i don’t think so. I taught her reading in whole words. As she progress on she learn to recognize word and alphabet.

This year 2021, I put her into my group learning. She keep progress on with amazing miracle took place. She is more vocal with positive attitude in learning. She progress to have a good retention memory. I taught her few time, she is able to recall what I taught her. I also discover what is her learning styles and her ability. JYing did not attend any speech therapy lesson. I hold to believed improve the brain, speech and other skills will come along they way.
